Situated in a row of shops in Crosspool, close to a more famous Sheffield eatery the Villa Caruso is a cosy little Italian with very friendly and attentive staff. It got our vote from the off, as it operates a 'bring your own policy' - we quickly got into the spirit with a nice Italian white from the nearby off licence.

It's not haute cuisine, but good hearty Italian, with menu items that are comfortingly familiar, such as pastas, pizza and a range of specials based on meat and fish. Everything looked and tasted freshly made and our only quibble was that we felt the ricotta and spinach cannelloni was a bit light on ricotta, tasty none the less though.

A nice little place that doesn't cost the earth and we'd definitely go back for a mid week treat. Crosspool has a few restaurants now, creating healthy competition - good news for customers who like a choice and it should hopefully mean that quality is maintained by all.
