The following review has been written by Sheffschefs after a visit to the establishment. All visits are made anonymously, as ordinary paying customers. Finding somewhere to park was a bit of a challenge when we arrived at our first destination on the Sheffield Tapas circuit. Spinrocs in Crookes, is located in the heart of the shopping area and on a Saturday evening the parade was buzzing with cars, partygoers and general wanderers, having a look. We didn't want to be late, as we'd been told that we couldn't have a table at either 7:30 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. due other bookings.... we were a bit mystified when they suggested 7:45 p.m. but snatched the slot and headed off. Inside it's like Star Ship Enterprise meets Spanish bar, wooden tables and chairs, and bright prints abound, but look up and you get a glimpse of the contemporary twist they've introduced by leaving the air ducting as a visible feature. The main menu looked tempting, with some delicious sounding dishes to suit carnivores and vegetarians alike, but we were committed to try the Tapas so we could report back to you. It was difficult to know how many to select, having never 'done' Tapas before, but after a bit of advice from the staff we settled on 9 dishes to share, from marinated olives to giant prawns. The range was plentiful, covering meat, seafood and vegetarian options. Initially, we thought we'd over ordered (9 dishes on any table looks a lot), but we got through them easily and could have managed a couple more if we hadn't gone for puddings. We thought some dishes were infinitely more exciting than others and oddly, this didn't seem overly dictated by price - the olives and bread were delicious, as was the roast aubergine and the authentic triangle of potato tortilla. Less enticing was the whitebait, which seemed to have had no attention between deep fat fryer and table. Overall though, it was a good meal experience in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and one that we'd be happy to repeat. It was good fun for two, as the dishes hold a comfortable amount to share, so you get lots of variety, without having to resort to pinching something off your other half's plate!
It's not too tough on the wallet either and if you go between 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. you can choose from the special Tapas selection and get a discount.
