Special occasions demand special meals and this was what drew us to Antibo on a fine summer's evening in August. From the outside, it looked terribly chic and stylish and we were keen to take a closer look inside. The latest in a small chain, Antibo has its sister restaurants in Nottingham, Derby and Leicester.

We'd gone straight from work for an early evening meal, so we had a drink in the bar to chill out a little, sinking thankfully intone of the sumptuous leather sofas on offer. Moving through to the restaurant at a little after 6.30 p.m. we virtually had the place to ourselves, but a few more dining companions appeared over the next couple of hours to give the place a gentle buzz.

The interior is quite breathtaking - one area of the dining room features a dramatic high ceiling but this is coupled with a suspended ceiling over the adjacent dining area, so it feels very spacious but still offers a hint of intimacy. It seems that no expense has been spared on the elegant decor and the restaurant boasts the ultimate in chic furnishings, from the chocolate brown leather upholstery to the clean lines of the dark wood tables. It certainly has bags of cosmopolitan Italian style, backed by courteous and professional staff.

Nibbling at some delicious bread and olives, we enjoyed a glass of champagne and got to grips with the menu. Antibo offers a good range of food, from pizza and pasta to creative main course dishes. Prices start from a reasonable £6.95 for a pizza, so it would be possible to have a meal without breaking the bank too much.

To start, we selected Gamberetti in salsa Rosato and Calamari piri piri. Expecting three or four succulent grilled prawns in a spicy salsa, I was most surprised to be presented with a prawn cocktail, which I have always loathed. The light dawned as I re-read the menu and did a literal translation, I probably should have realised in advance, but I suppose it just never occurred to me that a stylish new restaurant would offer such a dish! So, although it was off to a disappointing start for one of us, the calamari was a hit. Moving on to main courses, we'd opted for Pollo Cremolato and a Risotto Alle verdure. The chicken dish was delicious, with strips of tender chicken in a light creamy sauce. The risotto, though not one of the best we've sampled was tasty and filling.

A portion of excellent profiteroles made up for the starter mishap and filter coffee finished things off a treat.

Antibo is without a doubt a stylish place to eat and because of it's size, would be a terrific place for groups. It will no doubt soon have regular customers from the West One complex. One word of advice - watch out for the incognito prawn cocktail!
