You could easily pass the Clay Oven without ever realising it was a restaurant, as it is tucked back from the road at the bottom of Oakbrook Road in Nether Green.

Inside, the owners have clearly made attempts to move on a bit from the traditional decor you would expect in an Indian Restaurant by adding a few pieces of modern art to the walls. It makes for a reasonably cosy environment, though you can't help thinking that a few more improvements and additions might make all the difference to the style of the place.

No matter, as it's the food and service you come here for and in these two areas, the restaurant does well. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful with no pretensions, just good quality service.

There is a comprehensive menu, with descriptions of the dish style and the spice level that you can expect, which is helpful. There is also plenty of provision for vegetarians, with options dotted throughout the menu, plus a separate listing towards the back of it.

We tried a Chickpea Bhuna and a Chicken Pathia and were pleased with their obvious inclusion of fresh ingredients and well balanced spices. Accompanying Nan was light and very Moorish.

A good restaurant for a casual night out, well priced with enjoyable food.
