Situated in a busy shopping area in Woodseats, you find the Blue Room Brasserie in an unlikely location, but step inside the generous entrance lounge and you see instantly that the exterior masks a stylish interior.

Apparently, it used to be a Chinese restaurant and it's vast dining area is a bit of a giveaway to this history. It's very nicely turned out though, contemporary styling in shades of blue and cream and despite the size, there are plenty of tables for two dotted throughout.

The order of the day seems to be to relax in the bar with a drink whilst perusing the menu and then order before you go through to your table.

Getting down to the eating experience, the menu is large in size, though we thought a little bit restricted in choice. Vegetarians don't fare too well, as we could only find one main course dish of pasta on this front, though when we queried, the Maitre did offer to get any of the vegetarian starters upgraded to main courses. It's reassuring to know they have this flexibility and one starter in particular, the feta cheese tart, which was divine, would have been eminently suitable as a main course.

Many of the dishes are very original offerings, for example Monkfish with Bombay Potatoes and there are a number of classic British dishes, served with a modern twist, such as fish and chips, liver and bacon and sausage and mash. The range of puddings covered most requirements, from a taste of chocolate, through to an exciting brulee with mandarin and lemongrass, again something we rated highly.

Overall a good meal experience, definitely a good choice for an outing with a group of friends. A fellow customer, Liz from Rotherham e-mailed us after her visit with some food loving friends and said they gave it a definite 'thumbs up'.
