Reader Recommendation Guidelines
Personal recommendation is absolutely the best information to have when you are thinking of trying a restaurant for the first time and we therefore actively encourage all our readers to submit Reader Recommendations to share their views and experiences of restaurants at which they have had an enjoyable time.
What type of restaurants can be recommended?
Absolutely any type of restaurant can be reviewed in a Reader Recommendation, it doesn't have to be serving gastronomic food or be one of the most expensive places in Sheffield. We welcome your recommendations for restaurants of all types, serving any kind of food at any price.
The important thing to remember is that it the recommendation should be based on a positive experience that you have had. Your recommendation may be because of the food, the customer service, the atmosphere or anything else that you think made the dining experience enjoyable. The aim of Reader Recommendations is to give all readers a flavour of Sheffield restaurants from the diner's point of view, so don't be shy about putting your views forward, plenty of people will be interested and the more we have, the better it is for everyone.
What information should I include?
Please comment on anything that made your dining experience enjoyable in some way. If the food was great, then say so and try to give a few details about the meal you had. If your enjoyment was down to the staff or the restaurant's child policy, then include that information too. Basically, you can include whatever details you like, enjoyment will come from different things for different people, but a collection of views will help to give a good overall picture of a restaurant.
What if we didn't enjoy the dining experience?
If you didn't enjoy your dining experience at a Sheffield restaurant, then you have cause for complaint and the best place to take your complaint is to the manager, or if the restaurant is part of a chain, to the Regional Manager or Head Office. We won't publish negative reviews or complaints about restaurants.
Why don't you allow negative reviews?
We don't accept negative reviews for a number of reasons. It is virtually impossible to verify the accuracy and authenticity of reviews that are submitted electronically, as the use of a temporary e-mail address or web mail account makes it easy for people to conceal their true identity, should they wish to do. Whilst we know that most reviewers would only ever submit a genuine review, unfortunately there are others who prefer to use the system for the wrong reasons. If we publish a negative reader review that is not true, it could be construed as libel and quite simply we aren't prepared to be sued because of it.
These days, people are very quick to complain, but often don't take the time to give praise when it's due and we'd like to do our bit to try and encourage more people to share their good experiences.
We firmly believe that over time, Reader Recommendations will speak for themselves. The more Reader Recommendations a restaurant has, the more likely it is to be a good restaurant.
Can restaurants promote themselves in a Reader Recommendation?
No. If we receive a Reader Recommendation that appears to be from a restaurant carrying out self promotion, it won't be published.
Are all Reader Recommendations published?
We reserve the right not to publish anything that is deemed inappropriate, but most Reader Recommendations will be published, providing they contain positive information that will be helpful to other diners.
